Junior Leaders Training Academy

 We have an exciting set of Junior Camps planned for 2010. 

Overview
To begin the Junior Leadership Training Academy series, a boy must be at least an Adventure Ranger.  The Junior Training Camp is the first camp that must be completed (required for all others). 

Saber Award
When an Adventure/Expedition Ranger has completed Junior Training Camp, Advanced Junior Training Camp, and three other Junior Camps (a total of five camps), he earns a saber acknowledging his accomplishment.

 March 5-7, Junior Winter Camp

	What	Junior Winter Camp (JWC) is for those boys who wish to learn more about winter camping. Boys will have had to complete Advanced JTC and the ninth grade to attend. Boys are taught the fundamentals of coldweather camping. Safety precautions and skills are taught in evening and some daytime sessions. Classes and activities include tobogganing, winter shelters, and avalanche safety with possibly snowshoeing and cross-country skiing as well. During this time they will complete the requirements for the silver Winter Camping Merit.

 July 26-29, Junior Training Camp, Advanced JTC, and Junior Survival Camp (Held concurrently)

	What	Junior Training Camp -The JTC was developed as the starting point for training boys to become men.  This camp is required of boys wanting to graduate from the Junior Academy as well as Expedition Rangers working toward their Leadership Medal.  The camp will be held in a campout setting, but will include specific training on leadership skills and development.

	What	Advanced Junior Training Camp -The Advanced JTC is also required in order to graduate from the District Junior Leadership Training Academy. You will need to successfully complete the JTC, AJTC and at least two additional camps (JTT, JAC, JMC, JSC, JWC, or JCE).

	What	Junior Survival Camp (JSC) is designed to give boys training and experience in survival camping. Upon completion the junior leader will have completed all requirements for the silver Wilderness Survival Merit. The time at JSC will be divided between instruction and application. Boys are placed into two-man survival teams and will select a name and motto for their team. Boys learn skills such as advanced fire craft, primitive beds and shelters, outdoor cooking, and first aid. Teams also will construct and live in survival shelters. They build solar stills and use the water that they must obtain. They use sleeping bags and ground cloths for the first two nights. Their survival kits are inspected and brought up to minimum standards by the camp staff.
